When he becomes targetable, leave groups on the doors. The rest go in for the kill. The event has a 3-hour active window. That clock pauses while he is in combat. If he leashes, he returns home, hate clears, and his health restores. If the event fails, leftover devices clean up and he is available again in 10 minutes. If he dies, leftover device waves clean up.
